RESUMO

The hydrated sodium salt of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolinedithiocarbamate (1) has been successfully synthesized and characterized using IR, NMR, and X-ray single crystal analysis. The υC-S and thioureide υC-N bands appeared at 1484 cm-1 and 968 cm-1, respectively, in Na(H2O)3+(thqdtc)- • H2O. The notable NCS2 carbon signal emerged at 212 ppm, credited to unique nitrogen and sulfur-induced deshielding effects. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, P21/c space group, with dimensions a = 14.4297(4) Å, b = 6.1534(2) Å, c = 17.6701(4) Å, ß = 108.7340(10)°, V = 1485.83(7) Å3, and Z = 4. The structure of 1 exhibits a supramolecular architecture through secondary interactions, such as weak intermolecular interactions that link the molecules into a linear polymeric chain. The incorporation of heterocyclic rings in the dithiocarbamate ligands leads to the formation of an intriguing supramolecular architecture, as confirmed by BVS analysis results. The BVS value of sodium does not agree well with the formal oxidation state due to the interactions of anions, cations, coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules.

Herein, we report the nonlinear optical (NLO) refraction and absorption features of azo dye namely, methyl orange (MO) dissolved in ethanol, methanol, acetone, 1-propanol, DMF and DMSO. The UV-Visible absorption study reveals that the maximum absorption spectrum of MO dye appeared towards longer wavelength by increasing the solvent polarizability is the result of red shift or bathochromic shift. The Z-scan method is utilized to measure the third-order NLO features of MO dye in different polar solvents. A continuous wave laser with 5-mW power and an excitation wavelength of 405 nm is employed in the Z-scan technique. The NLO features including nonlinear index of refraction (n2), nonlinear coefficient of absorption (ß) and third-order NLO susceptibility (χ3) are calculated to be the order of 10-7 cm2/W, 10-2 cm/W and 10-7 esu, respectively. The NLO index of refraction shows peak-valley transmittance is the result of self-defocusing and NLO absorption coefficient exhibits both positive and negative nonlinearity owing to saturable absorption (SA) and reverse saturable absorption (RSA). The effect of solvent polarizability and dipole moment on third-order NLO susceptibility of MO dye is discussed. Based on the experimental results, an azo dye MO appears to be a promising option for NLO applications in the future.

Solvent environment on third-order nonlinear optical (TNLO) features of triarylmethane dye namely, basic blue 7 in different solvents is reported herein using 650 nm diode laser with continuous wave mode. The basic blue 7 dye is dissolved in different solvent media including ethanol, methanol, dimethyl formamide (DMF) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The influence of solvent characteristics such as solvent polarizability and dipole moment on solute molecule is discussed. TNLO characteristics such as nonlinear optical index of refraction, nonlinear optical coefficient of absorption, real and imaginary components of the TNLO susceptibility are measured to be the order of 10‒7 cm2/W, 10‒3 cm/W, 10‒6 esu and 10‒7 esu, respectively. The dye exhibits large TNLO susceptibility by dissolving in DMSO. The TNLO susceptibility of basic blue 7 dye is measured to be the order of 10‒6 esu. The overall results revealed that the basic blue 7 dye is suitable material for optoelectronics applications.

Organic dyes have shown a remarkable nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics under low power laser regime because of chemical stability, large nonlinearity and high susceptibility. With this view in mind, herein we report the third-order NLO features of lissamine green dye using 5 mW power laser with operating wavelength of 650 nm. The lissamine green dye is dissolved into various polar solvents such as ethanol, methanol, acetone and DMSO. The closed aperture Z‒scan approach discloses the information about nonlinear refractive index, whereas the open aperture Z‒scan technique provides the information about nonlinear absorption coefficient. The closed aperture curve shows the peak-valley transmittance is the result of self-defocusing nonlinearity and the open aperture transmittance curve switchover from saturable absorption to reverse absorption in high polar solvent due to polarizability and dipole moment. The third-order NLO features such as nonlinear refractive index (n2), nonlinear absorption coefficient (ß), real and imaginary features of third-order NLO susceptibility of the dye is calculated to be the order of, 10-7 cm2/W 10-3 cm/W, and 10-7 esu respectively. The correlation between solvent polarizability and dipole moment on lissamine green dye is discussed. The results are revealed that the lissamine green dye is a good candidate for NLO applications.

The friction welding of tube to tube plate using an external tool (FWTPET) is widely deployed in several industrial applications, such as aerospace, automotive, and power plants. Moreover, for achieving a better tensile strength and hardness in the weld zone, the friction stir processing (FSP) technique was incorporated into the FWTPET process for joining aluminum alloys (AA6063 tube, AA6061 tube plate). Furthermore, it has to be noted that FWTPET was applied for joining the AA6063 tube to the AA6061 tube plate, and FSP was deployed for reinforcing the weld zone with carbon nanotube (CNT) and silicon nitride (Si3N4) particles, thereby attaining the desirable mechanical properties. Subsequently, the Taguchi L25 orthogonal array was used for identifying the most influential input and output FWTPET + FSP process parameters. Furthermore, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the firefly algorithm (FFA) were deployed for determining the optimized input and output FWTPET + FSP process parameters. The input process parameters include CNT, Si3N4, rotational tool speed, and depth. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the welded joint was considered as the output process parameter. The process parameters predicted by PSO and FFA were compared with the experimental values. It was witnessed that deviation between the predicted and experimental values was minimal. Moreover, it was found that FFA provided a superior tensile strength prediction than PSO.

OBJECTIVE: The duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) influences treatment outcome in schizophrenia but its relevance in untreated patients, ill for a very long duration, is not known. This study examined outcome and factors related to it after one year of treatment of schizophrenia patients who were ill for many years and not previously treated. METHOD: Among 75 never-treated patients with schizophrenia detected in a community survey in Chennai, India, 49 took treatment and were followed up prospectively for one year. Evaluation at intake and outcome was carried out using standardized methods. RESULTS: A good clinical outcome in 29%, social outcome in 35%, occupational outcome in 51% and global outcome in 31% was observed at the end of one year. Patients with poor global outcome did not significantly differ from those with good outcome on demographic and clinical variables at intake but for the presence of delusions and formal thought disorder. The proportion with good outcome in clinical, work and global measures fell steadily with increasing DUP. This difference was significant for clinical and global outcomes after a DUP of 5 years. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between DUP and response to treatment held good even in chronic stages of schizophrenia with longer DUP associated with poorer outcome.
